The Dragon Next Door no. 17-18 (Chapter 25-27) Cleans
Hello. I really like the series and much appreciates the work that you have put into translating it. But I find it sad that you are already 12 releases (17 chapters) behind. I'm interested in contributing cleaning to this scanlation, but not as a permanent member. The "Cleans we currently Require" thread was last updated a day after chapter 10 appeared on naver, so I assume that the information is out of date. I want to claim release no. 18 (Chapter 27) if this is not cleaned yet. And then continue downwards after I'm done with that chapter.
I have two questions:
- The raw images for the series is spit up into several parts. Should this separation be kept?
- Would it be better to have the cleans made up with just the stuff that needs to be changed, and everything else being transparent? (Like an overlay that you put on top of the original image to produce the cleaned output)

Re: The Dragon Next Door no. 17-18 (Chapter 25-27) Cleans
I'm updating the threads, and TDND has been cleaned up to c14&15 (no9).
Thank you for your time, I added your claim in our workflow ^^
- Yes keep the same separation.
- Yes it's (sligthly) better if the clean just contain what needs to be cleaned (overlay). I suspect Noobzilla deleted my explanations when someone "stole" our work, because those contained links to tools that automates such separation. Anyway, the only advantage it has is the files are way ligther, so it's faster for you to upload them. We are now able to make overlay from anything, as long as the format is lossless (no clean in .jpg format).
If you have further questions, I'm here ^^

Okay, I've completed chapter 27 (release no. 18) as a set of overlays. Get it from my dropbox. Some feedback on the work would be great.

Done, it was very good, especially since some parts were not easy to do. The advertisement was not cleaned though, is it already gone?
I looked at the clean themselves aswell, and noticed you minimized manually the clean, which is astounding but alot of work. I say this because I noticed white "korean" text in the clean, which mean you cleaned letter by letter or something like that.
Quality is more than good, but if you plan to clean another chapter in some future, DON'T HESITATE TO ASK OUR SCRIPTS, it will make your life easier.
Noobzilla edited one of my previous guide out, which contained a link to those scripts, but I'll put it back on since I modified the plugin.

Automatic creation of the photoshop files and automatic export to transparent layers of minimal size
For those who wish to automate menial repetitive parts of the cleaning process, we have some photoshop scripts that invariably saves time.
Requirement:
1. Photoshop
2. Doonge's Scanlating Tools - Download
3. RAWs
Instructions
1. Extract the zip file (doonge's tools) > put these scripts in the same Folder as the RAWs.
2. For best results, your Folder name should be the Publication ID of your chapter. It's not mandatory, but it saves some time.
How to find publication ID:
If you are on naver, browse the source code (CTRL+U), then search (CTRL+F) for "content_image_", it will bring you directly to the source code of the first image of the chapter, something like:In Bold is the publication ID. The number here represents the 151st release. And all the RAWs are stored in a folder named "151". So in this particular case you would name your folder "151" aswell.<img onerror="this.src='http://static.comic.naver.net/staticImages/COMICWEB/NAVER/img/common/blank.gif'" src="http://imgcomic.naver.net/webtoon/186811/151/02b76cc76d0c81201135fed878a8c93c_IMAG01_1.jpg" title="" alt="" id="content_image_0" onload="loadImageEvent(this);" oncontextmenu="return false" ondragstart="return false" onselectstart="alse">
If you don't care much about this (it's not crucial since the typesetter or the releaser will do it anyway), just name your folder whatever, but put a number in it (cheese in the trap chapter 47 for instance, or anything).
1. Pre-Clean Procedures
Put the scripts contained in doonge-tools.zip in your working folder (where you put the raws), and once the script and RAWs are together in the same folder:
Run build_psds.jsx (The PSD file creator) - This will Open photoshop> Open all the raws (.jpg) it finds in your folder > Rename your files correctly and save them as .psd (Photoshop file)
You can then start cleaning normally, (don't modify how you work just because we use overlays, they will automatically created). But don't delete the raws in the folder, they'll be used later.
2. Post-Clean Procedures: Saving your cleans as PNGs - DO NOT skip this step or try doing it manually:
Once you have finished cleaning and saved your Photoshop PSD files.
- Pre-requirement Your folder MUST contain: all the scripts, Raws, and the cleaned PSDs.
- Make sure to have Photoshop configured to save PNG-24 files with "Transparency" and "Interlaced" Ticked; Metadata set to: None (Go to Save as web devices to edit PNG-24 saving settings)
Then Run publish_diff_overlay.jsx (Saves your cleans in our desired format) - This will open photoshop > Remove unnecessary color information from your clean> Save your work in PNG format.
Note: Now you will have lots of .PNG files that look almost totally transparent. These are your cleans, so don't discard them!
3. Post-Clean Procedures: Lowering file size of your cleans:
- Prerequirement:
- You should already have .PNG files that were created in Step 4.
- The script should be in the same folder as the cleaned .PNG files
Run pngcrush.bat - This will run pngcrush.exe > Decrease the png file size without reducing quality > Saves your cleans in a folder called "Crushed" The content of this "Crushed" folder is what you should send us.
(remember to run pngcrush.BAT, running pngcrush.EXE directly is useless.)

Re: The Dragon Next Door no. 17-18 (Chapter 25-27) Cleans
Yes I did minimized the clean, but not stroke by stroke. My technique uses about 14 clicks to clear a whole image. Basically what I do is to use the difference layer mode to create a mask that I select by color. I use a threshold of 15 in this selection to wash out all the jpeg noise. I then shrink the selection by 2 pixels and use the resulting mask to delete everything in the image that was not modified. It's not perfect, and I have not settled yet on my work flow so it may change. In particular it leaves a lot of noise in the speech bubbles. Uploading large files is not a problem on my part, but distributing modified raws is not exactly ideal.
The problem with your scripts is that I use GIMP and not Adobe Photoshop. It's pretty clear to me that GIMP is not as feature rich and up to date as Photoshop is, but I do not have any plans on acquiring it. I could automate a lot of the process of acquiring the raw images, setting up GIMP files and making the transparent overlays though. Can't help but notice that by the time I've made a single clean, 2 new episodes have been released.
I have the advertisement, but I did not clean it. I'll clean it, and any future ads if that is desirable. I would also like to continue with release no 17 (ch 25-26) if that is possible.

thanks a bunch, and no worries about being late. We lack typesetters, so you're clearly not late.
