Morning! | Ohayou | おはよう
Hey, my interweb name is "Tllc" almost everywhere. I happen to be an otaku. I came across OSS while searching for 1/2 Prince. I am a guy despite what you might gather from my profile pic (a friend drew it for my website, I like it ). I'm learning Japanese for my High school language credits, but writing it can be the most confusing thing ever (especially for someone with inattentive ADD, which I have... BAD). I'm from the US and live in Askansas (not the best place ever). I plan on moving to Hokkaidō soon after I finish High school. I enjoi coding in batch and HTML.

Wow... what did you use when making this??? The other one's great too! The only thing I can show off is this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZuWLG5ut0A , but it doesn't have any visual effects... I was planning on remaking it though, but I still haven't... I'm a bit of a procrastinator at times :/
Re: Morning! | Ohayou | おはよう
Should be おはよう, not おはいよう. Hello fellow Japanese-learner! I'm Blique, nice to meet ya Tllc~ よろしくおねがいします! Practicing Japanese is always fun. ^^
A video showdown...Something I drew: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LwQDX9AlSQ
Something I translated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q_YWwrfwiI
So cool, Caren! I've always wanted to edit videos like that. *w* But I always run into technical problems. TTwTT

Hey...
Hmmm, I guess your right. I don't have a Japanese keyboard, so I just kinda used http://www.mauvecloud.net/charsets/asian/fastromaji.html to get me my Hiragana.

You win...
It would drive me crazy if I had to annotate that many things...
and I wish I could draw like that, but I don't have much time to practice my drawing.
I can draw observational though... but It can be rather boring. I can't draw anything from my head, which could be a symptom of my MAJOR ADD... ahhh, and it also makes it hard for me to learn Japanese. I'm taking 4 semester courses of Japanese, but I'm still in the first semester course, in only like lesson 2 of 8, in the second semester of school. yeah... But a factor towards that could also be that it's an independent study course, so there's nobody to practice with, which kinda makes it difficult to retain anything...
Soooooo, any help that you don't mind giving would be greatly appreciated!
Gomen wa nan no imi desu ka. [I'll stick to romaji for right now ]
My course only taught me what "gomen nasai" meant ("I'm sorry"),
but is that just a polite way of saying it, meaning, would just saying "gomen" mean "I'm sorry" too?

Re: Morning! | Ohayou | おはよう
Yeah, I don't have a Japanese keyboard either, so I have to stick to copying and pasting. I personally use www.whiteagle.net for that, nice and quick.
It took me so many hours to annotate that thing, and there's still messy stuff everywhere. Youtube annotations are useful, but way too much of a hassle. I would much, much prefer it if they'd just let us change the video itself...
Yeah, "gomen" is a quick way of saying sorry. The difference in connotation would be something like this:
Gomen = Sorry
Gomen nasai = I'm sorry
"Nasai" is a word used to add formality or politeness to certain phrases. In Japanese, there are multiple ways to say the same thing, just with differing levels of formality. How much formality you use depends on your social position and who you're speaking with - if it's someone older than you, "gomen nasai" is used; if it's a friend or someone the same age as you and it's a trivial matter you're apologizing for, then "gomen" is fine. People you should most always be polite to include teachers, strangers...well, pretty much the people you use politeness with in English.
I'm always glad to help, since it helps me practice and learn Japanese too. ^^

Ahhhh, okay, thanks. That's what I thought, I just wasn't sure. Hmmm, whiteagle also gives me 「おはいよう」 for "Good Morning", but I'm sure that 「おはよう」 is "Good Morning". Oh well, thanks, I've corrected it...
You ever thought about using subs (captions) for any of your videos? I find it much easier.
Examples: [ http://pastehtml.com/view/bkjmg3eta.txt ] & [ http://pastehtml.com/view/bkjmh5rzi.txt ]
are the caption files for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTK4y_ONWZk
that type of caption file is saved as a ".srt" file.

Re: Morning! | Ohayou | おはよう
It's ohayou, not ohaiyou - your hiragana is right, it's just the romaji that's off a bit.Tllc wrote:Ahhhh, okay, thanks. That's what I thought, I just wasn't sure. Hm, I've never tried it nor heard of it, but it does look rather nice. I'll have to consider it if I need Youtube for subbing again. ^^

Whoops, your right about that too... I'm really not sure how that happened ... Fixed...
Yeah, talking about this got me to post another video [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pyWSOYBBD0 ], took me a bit to get the subs right, and now I'm working on the ending..
But you know, what you did on [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q_YWwrfwiI ] had an interesting effect. Subtitles are probably better when you have a video, which is what I normally have...

Re: Morning! | Ohayou | おはよう
I personally just like watching lyric videos, with nothing but text on it, so that's the type I make too. Plus, the original videos I translate are the same, with a picture and text.Tllc wrote:Whoops, your right about that too... I'm really not sure how that happened ... Fixed...

The downside to adding a translation to a video is that if it's the first translation in existence, people will associate the translation with the video. I like to imagine my own "video" in my head as I read the lyrics, and watching someone else's video erases my own ideas. Therefore, I go for a default "video" and let the viewers focus on the text and imagine it in their own way.

みなさん、はじめまして!I'm Kila. I've been here for a while, but I don't talk much... Nice to meet you all! I've been studying Japanese for a year and a half now, and it's pretty fun. Granted, I'm sure I'm not as good as you guys, but it's fun to meet others that speak Japanese, too! :'D

Nice to meet you, too, Geeuleun-san!
And learning Japanese takes diligent practices like any other skill. At the very least, I would recommend starting with the two alphabets hiragana and katakana.

Re: Morning! | Ohayou | おはよう
I don't know Japanese or Korean or Chinese. But I don't need to.
I know a bit of english, but I don't need too either.
People just look at me (when they dare to!), I look back fiercely and they understand they must not mess wih me, or they understand they have to work on Cheese in the Trap (depends the context).
I'm a dominant bunny.
Anyway, hello ohayou minasan (?), and glad to see this forum a bit more active than usual =p
